"I'm staying on for a few months after contract - when should I start looking for a new job"?
With the hectic pace of training contacts these days, it’s no surprise that many opt to stay on in practice for a few months, use up their overtime, take a holiday and take a deep breath before they think about next steps.
If that’s you, here are a few things that you should definitely keep in mind:
- It can take 3-4 weeks (or more) for that ideal role to come up in the right location for you.
- Most recruitment processes take between 1-2 weeks. That’s pretty fast.
- If you want to start new role in September, it’s best to start looking in early July (or even a little earlier if you want to get going ahead of everyone else!)
Most hiring managers won’t mind at all if you can’t start until September as long as it’s flagged up front. Hiring Managers are used to waiting 4-6 weeks (+) from offer to start date.
The Summers is short.
There are 12 weeks and closing between now and September.
