Barden are delighted to be supporting our Dairy client in their search for an Operations Manager based out of their facility in West Cork.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Owners, the Operations Manager will as part of the senior leadership team, leading out an operational strategy that delivers for the business across facility planning, energy management, environment, capacity, production planning, quality, NPD, process, labour, supply chain, procurement and inventory. Whether through product, process or efficiencies, this role is pivotal to delivering competitiveness in the marketplace.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Align all operations – procurement, production, maintenance, technical, inventory and supply chain to maximise productivity, increase efficiencies and reduce cost
- Create a culture of excellence across all service touch points relating to customers, suppliers, factory floor, administration, government bodies and all other external stakeholders
- Ensure proper quality standards and checks occur across procurement, goods in, production, labelling, storage and transport
- Lead, manage, train and coach the production, technical and maintenance teams towards a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring standards are met.
- Ensure proper health and safety standards are in place and maintained
- Review continuously our processes and team’s competencies to make improvements that enhances our performance.
- Achieve agreed targets within set budgets
- Implement and maintain KPI’s that are relevant and measure performance such as output, yield, throughput, customer fill rate, quality etc.
- Ensure company is compliant with all legal, regulatory and industry certification obligations
- Ensure a proper maintenance system is in place to minimise downtime
- Ensure that production planning is fit for purpose and that forecasted production is delivering on time within specified quality and quantity and at optimum cost.
- Ensure that forecasted materials maintain minimum stock levels required to meet current and future customer demand
- Research new technologies and industry process improvements that are aligned to our environmental and social responsibilities. Introduce to the business where appropriate.
- Work with NPD to progress sample to pilot scale and production level.
- Ensure that optimum employee structures are in place to deliver targets
- Ensure staff are trained in the skills required to carry out their duties
- In conjunction with the Financial Controller prepare and control factory budgets
- Ensure that labour cost is minimised and that a workable labour plan is in place
- Recruitment, selection and performance management of staff
ABOUT THE PERSON:
- Extensive operations management experience working in a food processing environment preferably with a technical background
- Self-managed individual who delegates and empowers people to find their own solutions to problems.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on meeting deadlines and completing projects on time
- Exceptional communication skills. Brings the best out of people, gains their co-operation and trust.
- The ability to motivate staff by giving meaning to their work and actively seeking their involvement to improve processes
- A track record of delivering efficiencies, reducing cost and implementing processes that made significant improvements to productivity
- Strong commercial acumen, ability to not only meet current customer needs but anticipate their future needs.
- Experience in procurement of raw materials, ingredients and packaging desirable
- A background/qualification in lean six sigma desirable
- Qualifications in Food Science or Engineering desirable
