Why recruitment, Why Barden? by Kate Flanagan
The team at Barden are growing. My colleague Lisa Hughes recently published a personal article on her decision to pursue a career in recruitment. Lisa took a leap of faith as she decided to step out of her career as a Big 4 auditor and join Barden as a recruitment advisor, allowing Lisa to continue to utilise her ACA qualification.
I think Lisa has answered the question as to why recruitment, but perhaps not fully answered is why Barden and what makes recruitment at Barden different?
As tax and treasury partner with Barden, I have extensive experience in recruitment. Prior to my career in recruitment, I spent 7 years working in tax in Ireland and internationally. As such, I have experienced various organisational structures and cultures.
I believe what makes Barden so different is the how of what we do, rather than what we do, let me illustrate:
- We operate as a recruitment practice not an agency. We provide a consultative, unbiased approach to recruitment rather than solely focusing on the transaction of placing someone in a job. We focus on getting all the “little” things right rather than just the end result.
- We each serve specialized communities (inch wide, mile deep) and develop long term relationships with the members of our communities. This ensures we build trust and can become true experts in our field.
- Some of the things we actually do all of the time – provide specific market insights, coach and guide people at every step of their career, plan a route to market for senior professionals, provide recommendations of other good recruiters, align ourselves with relevant professional & industry bodies so that we understand what’s happening in our areas. And of course – we find new opportunities and superb talent for our candidates and clients!
Apart from how we operate as a business, I believe culturally we offer something different too. What does it take to fit into Barden and Barden to fit in with you?….
Having shared values and beliefs between Barden as a company and us as individuals. Not to be confused with personality – personalities can come in all forms, for example an introverted individual can have the same values as an extroverted individual. We take into account the specific personalities and values of people and that word teamwork has a whole different meaning when that happens…..
On values – the type of words that symbolize our values include honesty, empathy, passionate, energetic, selflessness, ernest, ethical, kindness……
Finally, whilst we are competitive with ourselves here at Barden, fortunately our perception of competitive is being the best we can be at what we do!
