Laura Fitzpatrick is a Graduate Associate with Barden, she hails from Cork and has a Masters in Organisational Psychology. Laura is part of the operational finance team in Cork and is an expert in part-qualified accounting and operational finance careers.
We sat down with Laura recently to learn a little bit more about her…
Where are you from?
Cork.
Where did you study?
I did my undergrad in Applied Psychology in University College Cork (UCC) and went to University of Limerick (UL) to do my Masters in Work and Organisational Psychology.
What did you enjoy most about your time studying?
The nightlife! No, I would probably say actually being in college because half of my time was online due to Covid.
How old were you when you had your first paying job? And what was it?
I started babysitting when I was about 14 or 15.
Where did you work before joining Barden?
I worked in River Island for 3 years during college before I joined Barden.
What made you decide to move into the world of recruitment?
I always new I wanted to work with people. I did psychology hoping I would be able to help people but the clinical route didn’t really appeal to me. I started hearing more about recruitment and became interested in it. The idea of being able to help and guide people on their career journey stood out to me immediately.
Why did you choose to work with Barden?
The way Barden does recruitment really stood out to me; I love their people first perspective.
What’s the best thing about working here?
The people and culture.
What was most surprising to you about Barden?
Everybody works as one big team; it is so much more than just finding a person for a role.
What does your role in Barden involve?
I work on the part qualified and accounts assistant side of things. I get to give people advice, and support them, on their career choices, helping them find the right career opportunities for them.
What top tip would you give to those looking to change role?
Do your research, know what you are looking for (and not looking for) in the next role.
What three words best describe you?
Practical, considerate, adaptable.
Who is your role model, and why?
My parents, they are always so supportive and encouraging.
Have you a favourite saying or quote? What is it?
I always say “it is what it is”.
Glass half full or half empty?
Half full definitely.
What’s your favourite moment of the day?
My favourite moment of the day would have to be dinner time, or any other meal really.
Where in the world would you most like to visit?
There is loads of places I would like to visit, Bali is one.
And finally, who would win a fight between Spiderman, Batman or Wonder Woman?
Spiderman.
