The 2024 Salary Survey from the Chartered Accountants Ireland Leinster Society, in partnership with Barden, sheds light on salary trends across sectors and experience levels, providing valuable insights into the current market landscape.
What exactly are accountants being paid right now?
For newly qualified accountants across all sectors, the average basic salary stands at €62,374—a 5.5% increase from last year and over 10% higher than two years ago. When factoring in additional elements such as bonuses and car allowances, the total package rises to €68,121, reflecting an 8% increase from the previous year.
However, it’s not all upward movement. Accountants with 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE) have seen their total salary and package decrease by 3% compared to last year, bringing the current figure to €89,899.
On a broader scale, the average salary and package for all Leinster Society members now sits at €123,466, which is a 4% increase from the previous year.
One particularly interesting trend this year is the rise in base salaries within practice firms. While the salaries for Audit Seniors have remained relatively stable, more senior roles and specialised areas such as tax, consulting, and sustainability have seen salary increases ranging from 4% to 8% in the past year alone.
Overall, the survey highlights a mix of stability and growth in salaries, with some sectors and experience levels seeing significant increases, while others experience slight downward adjustments.
