Insights from the 2024 Salary Survey: Hybrid Work, Flexibility, and the Changing Workplace

The 2024 Salary Survey from the Chartered Accountants Ireland Leinster Society, in partnership with Barden, shows that the majority of professionals are now working in a hybrid capacity, with 75% splitting their time between home and the office. Meanwhile, 16% of respondents have returned to the office full-time, and 9% continue to work remotely.

Interestingly, the survey shows that employees are still spending just over half (52%) of their time in the office, which mirrors last year’s findings. This suggests that the balance between in-office and remote work is stabilising at a level that satisfies both employers and employees.

However, beyond hybrid policies, the demand for additional flexibility is on the rise. Employees are increasingly seeking flexible start and finish times, reduced hours, and other adjustments to their schedules. These flexible arrangements are becoming a critical factor in employees’ decisions to either stay with their current company or explore opportunities elsewhere.

Another key finding is that 55% of survey respondents are responsible for managing teams on a daily basis. Line managers, in particular, have noted a significant improvement in the onboarding and integration of new team members.

One notable highlight is the reduction in challenges related to workplace inclusion. Last year, 27% of respondents felt inclusion efforts were lacking; this year, that figure has dropped to just 11%. Similarly, perceptions of onboarding, training, and integration processes have seen marked improvements across the board.

Overall, these findings indicate that organisations are becoming more adept at recruiting, onboarding, and upskilling their teams in a post-COVID, hybrid working world. The positive trends in flexibility, inclusion, and team integration suggest that workplaces are evolving to better meet the needs of their employees in this new era.
