Barden is working as the exclusive partners to a boutique law firm seeking to hire an “all rounder” Solicitor to work on a wide range of areas of law, with a focus on commercial law and matters.
This is a law firm with 10 Solicitors and a fantastic work culture, very tight-knit team, and an open door approach where knowledge sharing is the norm. This is evidenced by a very high staff retention rate / low turnover.
THE ROLE
The firm has a variety of public and private sector clients which rely on them for a variety of matters, including corporate transactions and commercial contracts, commercial litigation, data protection or freedom of information advice, property transactions, company law, employment law, etc.
In this role, you will work closely with the partners and autonomously on these and potentially several other areas of law.
THE PERSON
- Qualified Solicitor in Ireland with circa 1 year’ PQE.
- Experience in a variety of areas of law, ideally such as commercial litigation, corporate/commercial, commercial property, employment law, etc.
- Very adaptable, keen to learn and develop experience as a generalist and to turn their head to a wide range of legal topics.
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in talent advisory with Barden?
After my initial chat with some of the team here, I knew that Barden was the right place for me. The chance to build out a new practice and help Barden grow was exactly what I was looking for. I also love Barden’s consultative and genuine approach to talent and clients.
2. What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career so far, and how has it impacted your work?
Keeping a positive attitude. I consider myself quite a positive person, sometimes probably too positive, but when there are challenges, it helps me look at the positives rather than focusing on the negatives.
3. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone considering a career change?
Dedicate time to researching potential new roles and companies of interest and ensure that your motivations (whatever they are) for making the change will be fulfilled by the new position. Also, find a trustworthy recruitment partner who will have your interests at heart – they will be able to work with you and give great advice.
4. Can you describe a project or accomplishment at Barden that you’re particularly proud of?
The Quality Control Talent Monitor – it is Barden’s and Ireland’s first Quality Control Talent monitor.
5. What aspect of your work at Barden excites you the most?
As cheesy as it sounds – changing someone’s life. I love that helping someone secure a new position can affect their lives dramatically in terms of their personal life. Whether that be having more time at home with kids or their partner, able to make sports trainings or other activities – knowing the person is in a much better position having worked with me is a fantastic feeling.
6. What’s a hobby/ interest you have that might surprise us?
Gardening! Not sure when it happened… perhaps when I bought my first house and we did up the garden. It might be age-related, but I’m after getting addicted to having a really nice garden. I’m not at Peter O’Mahony’s level yet…. But aspire to be someday!
7. If you could master a new skill instantly, what would it be and why?
It would either be playing the guitar or piano – I always wanted to learn.
8. If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be and what would you do?
I think President of the US – It seems easy enough to become the president there these days but I would be curious about all the secret files they have. Not a conspiracy theorist, just interested, is all. Area 51 etc.
9. What’s one thing you’d like to accomplish, personally or professionally, in the next year?
To improve my Spanish. I studied Spanish in secondary school and for 2 years in college, but I would love to get to a better standard this year.
10. What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?
My dad always said this to me – “what’s meant to be won’t pass you by”, and I fully agree.
