AI Isn’t Replacing Jobs – It’s Changing Them

In the previous article>>>, we talked about how AI is quietly changing the way businesses operate rather than replacing entire functions overnight.

Software engineering is a clear example of that shift happening in real time.

There’s growing concern across the software industry as AI tools become more capable and code generation becomes faster. But the idea that AI will replace software engineers feels unlikely.

If anything, AI will increase the pace of software creation. More products will be built, more systems will need to scale, and more complexity will need to be managed.

AI shouldn’t be seen as a threat, but as an evolution of the software engineer’s role.

Tasks centred around repetitive coding and manual testing will continue to reduce, while skills like architecture, problem solving, system design, security, and commercial understanding become more valuable.

AI can generate code. It can’t fully understand context, accountability, or the long-term impact of technical decisions.

That still sits with engineers.

The biggest shift will be in expectations. Engineers who learn how to work alongside AI tools will become significantly more productive. Those who don’t may find parts of their skill set become less relevant over time.

This isn’t the end of software engineering. It’s simply the next evolution of it.
